Share Your Blessings

Why is it, that often we pray and ask the Lord to do something for us, and then we’re surprised when he answers just like we prayed?
This just happened to me and I thought I needed to share it as I was bursting inside to let it out! Part of me, a little voice in my head, said “don’t be silly, no one wants to hear about your little blessing”, but the other part of me said “NO! Tell it! Shout it! Share it!” So, I’m going with this voice.

This is not my usual writing style that is mulled over, prayed over, thought out, studied out etc. Just a short little time of sharing.
I believe God wants us to share our blessings with others. Not only does it help plant it firmly in our own hearts, but it encourages others to hope. It gives others that glimmer of light, that they too, can be the recipient of God’s abundant goodness.

I have been battling lately with a very sore shoulder, which flares up painfully when I do my twice weekly deliveries around town. Well, today was going to be no different. I supposed. I rose early, was able to spend a few minutes in God’s Word, while listening to the beautiful sounds of a butcher bird calling and watching the sun burst into glory over the horizon.

I had been praying the night before, that the Lord would give me a lighter load today for my deliveries as not only was the pain in my shoulder making its presence known, but I also had a lot going on this weekend that would require more lifting and straining.

Well, as is so often the case with our prayers, I prayed small. “Lord, help there to be not too much freight. And make it light, Lord. No heavy boxes”. I mean, I couldn’t possibly ask God to give me NO freight! That would be just too much to ask! Or would it? O ye of little faith.

Well, you know the end of this story now. That’s right. When I arrived at the depo to see what enormous task I had before me, I was surprised, yes, surprised to find that there was NO freight! None. Nada. Not even one little box.

I was immediately humbled. I felt the tears well up in my eyes. Why had I doubted God’s ability to bless? And why had I prayed so small when God is ‘able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or even think!’

Why was I even surprised at God! Why was I surprised that God had answered my prayer, and exceedingly answered my prayer?
Yes, blessings come in all shapes and sizes. I tell you all this, to encourage you to share your blessings with others. If God blesses you, then be a blessing to someone else, by sharing your blessing with them. Don’t share in hopes that they will see you as some super Christian that receives God’s favour. Don’t share to make yourself look good. Share because you can’t keep it inside. Share because you are so undeserving and others need to know that God loves them and if we are walking in his will, he will rain down his blessings upon us, despite our failings, despite our doubtings.

Psalm 34:8

O taste and see that the Lord is good:
blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalm 84:11

For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Psalm 100:5

 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.

Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according
to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Matthew 7:9-13
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.  If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?  Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
